Vespasian is recruiting friendly, confident and proactive individuals to join a team for a short-term contract supporting traffic management operations in Portsmouth, Hampshire. This customer-facing role will be based in a cabin at a busy location as part of a key traffic management operation – the main responsibilities include welcoming hauliers, checking documentation, tickets and other paperwork and giving advice to assist drivers to be border ready.
Successful candidates will join the Vespasian Team for a guaranteed two-week deployment, working shift patterns to support a traffic management operation around Portsmouth International Port. There is an opportunity for the successful candidate to be enrolled on a nationally recognised training course, gaining an NCFE Chapter 8 qualification in Traffic Management.
Candidates will be able to communicate in fluent spoken English. A good degree of self-confidence, attention to detail, computer literate, experience of working directly with the public and customers and the ability to problem solve is essential.
All candidates MUST be able to attend pre-deployment training for which they will be paid for their time and be able to commit to a 12 hour per day, four shifts on/four shifts off pattern from 2 Jan 2021 for a minimum of 2 weeks leading to and including 16 January 2021.
There is a potential for the contract to be extended until 30 April 2021.
Operating in 12hr shift pattern alternating days and nights, team members will work a shift pattern of ‘four on/four off’ Mon-Sun.
The pay rate for these positions is £10.50ph PAYE paid on a monthly basis. Each team member earns holiday pay per hour on top of this hourly rate which is paid on holidays dates requested by the team member.
Vespasian also operates a pension scheme to which all team members have access.

The Traffic Management Support Operative role involves:
Screening and expediting vehicles
Swiftly examining and processing documents against a pre-set list of standards
Engaging with customers and drivers from a wide range of backgrounds
Working alongside emergency partners and personnel
The ability to work within a small tight knit team, all striving towards a common goal
The ability to be flexible and adapt to a changes in their tasks as the needs of the project fluctuate
Team members will as part of their duties:
Communicate with colleagues via radio
Deals with customer queries and complaints
The position requires applicants to demonstrate a number of key skills:
Customer care skills
Ability to remain calm under pressure
Good communication skills – both written and verbal (those with a foreign language will also be of particular interest.
